CYBERPUNK 2077

As Facebook preferred partners, Biborg collaborated with the critically acclaimed video game developer and publisher CD Projekt Red on the creation and development of Facebook AR Camera Effects for their highly anticipated game: Cyberpunk 2077, due for release on 10th December 2020.

The game is adapted from the Cyberpunk franchise and takes place in dystopian Night City, an open world with six distinct regions. Players assume the role of the customisable mercenary V in a first-person perspective, with skills in hacking and machinery, as well as an arsenal of ranged weapons and options for combat.

As an avid gamer, it was obviously thrilling to work on a Cyberpunk 2077 AR project. Working with high quality assets is always a pleasure and it sets the expectation of quality to a pretty high level, which is challenging and stimulating.

Going live on the 31st October 2019 - in time for Halloween, the objective of the campaign was to maximise the hype and get fans excited about Cyberpunk by inviting them to augment themselves to key characters from the game. With the aim of boosting online conversation and shareability, the format itself consists of four AR Camera Effects linked together via an interface that will be displayed on Facebook. They will also be available on Instagram as separate effects - with each one having a unique animation connected to the design which can be triggered through a variety of actions.

The camera effects include the below characters :

Maelstrom 25 (Dum Dum) A member of the Maelstrom gang, which is known for heavy cybernetic augmentation, Maelstrom 25 (Dum Dum) appears as an interactable character in the gameplay demos that have been shown. The animation effect is inspired from the in-game moment when the user meets him as they are attempting to buy a Spider Bot from him and he demonstrates how to use it. Users are invited to open their mouth which triggers seven lights to turn off and a center light to turn blue.

V. This is the default character model from the game however in the game this character can change their gender and fully customise their appearance. When users raise their eyebrows, lines of code appear under their eyes.

Maelstrom 84. This effect shows one of the many augmentations that the members of the Maelstrom gang apply to themselves. The animation effect created allows the light bars on the face to move up and down along with eyebrow movement of the user.

Jackie A gun for hire, Jackie is one of V’s partners who accompanies V on several missions. When you raise your eyes, the light on the plate on your temple will flash on and off.
