Context

The Little Nightmares franchise is expanding with the release of its first-ever VR instalment, Little Nightmares: Altered Echoes. To mark the announcement, we were tasked with creating the game’s official logo - both static and animated - as well as localizing it into multiple languages. separator_100.gif

Challenge

The key challenge here was managing the visual hierarchy of the logo. This was the first time the Little Nightmares licence had ever added a subtitle to its main logo, meaning it had to be delicately balanced as a lockup.

The goal was to highlight the franchise and the specifics of this VR title, and then to let the narrative aspect shine through in the background. Of course, the core design had to remain faithful to the series’ historical identity. separator_100.gif

Our Approach

We designed a brand identity that embodies the unique atmosphere of this new instalment, with a story that revolves around the concepts of: alter egos, resonance, and disruption. To illustrate this idea of duality and represent “the other self”, we created a logo that played on the tension and contrast between different personalities.

In its animated version, the game title appears slowly and eerily, revealed by a light effect that dispels the darkness. We then accentuated the game’s atmosphere by incorporating visual interference reminiscent of old CRT televisions. We meticulously adjusted these visual effects during the animation process to ensure all information remained perfectly legible while simultaneously immersing players in the unsettling world of Little Nightmares.
